My Mother

My mother was a poet.

As a boy, I'd stay up late with her while my father and little brother slept.

She introduced me to poetry, literature, art.
My life continues to grow richer for it.

We always had dinner at 6.
We always had a safe, tidy (except for my brother's space) home.

We were always loved.

She showed me how to live life.

Today, she stands at my left shoulder.

Thanks Mom.

My Father

My father fought our wars.
He retired wearing eagles.

He became an independent investor.
He retired with millions.

He gave good advice.

When we were living in France, I told him a boy had kicked sand in my face,
he said, "Go hit the sum'bitch in the nose."

When I returned, he asked what happened.
5-year old Johnny, "I hit the sum'bitch in the nose."
He said, "Good."

He was always there when my brother and I needed him.

Little League for my brother.
Principal's Office (fights) for me.

He showed me how to be a man.

Today he stands at my right shoulder.

Thanks Dad.
